Protect yourself from
e-mail viruses, scams and hoaxes,
|
Here are some simple rules
to follow:
- NEVER open e-mail attachments (unless you are specifically expecting
one from a known identity)
- Don't even open e-mail attachments from people you know if they
did not tell you they were sending an attachment.
- Turn off the preview pane in your email program
- Do NOT unsubscribe to unsolicited e-mails - it just lets them
know that YES, your email address is good and
you will get even more SPAM
- Use a good virus detection software on your personal computer.
Preferably one that runs all the time and checks your email before
you open it.
- Use an alternate e-mail address to sign up for online newsletters
or to sign up for downloads, etc. NEVER give them your primary
email address.
- If you don't recognize an email address, don't be tempted to
open the email "just to see"
- DID YOU KNOW - that when you forward an email
- the email is opened on YOUR computer. Be careful
what you forward
- As a rule - do not forward emails as attachments -Learn how
to copy and paste
- Do not forward jokes, stories or virus hoaxes that includes
others email addresses to another list. They may not want everyone
else knowing their email address. Ask before giving out email
addresses
Do your part:
Keep email free of viruses, SPAM and other
clutter |
